Gone in 30 Seconds

Thieves can steal your tailgate and tail lights in less than 30 seconds, even if the tailgate is locked.

The easiest method takes advantage of a design flaw.

How to Open a Locked Tailgate

Without providing too much detail, thieves can reach into your truck bed and flip the latch mechanism with just a finger.

The latch mechanisms are accessible through access holes on each end of the tailgate.

How LatchLid Works

Design FLaw

When the tailgate is closed, the latch mechanism is accessible through the access hole.  Thieves can reach in the bed and using their finger or a screwdriver, flip the detent on the latches and unlock the tailgate.

Once the tailgate is open, the tailgate and tail lights can be easily removed from your truck.

How to Open a Locked Tailgate - Part 2

A second method to unlock and open a tailgate is through a hole in the center of the bed side of the tailgate.

Our LatchLid kits include stainless-steel hardware to block this hole and prevent thieves from using this method.
